Cebu - Day 2

Minggu, 20 Februari 2011

Our second day in Bantayan started early as we are hoping to see the sunrise but the sky was too cloudy for us to see the sun. We took a long leisurely walk along the shore heading east to see nearby surroundings and found a lot of people already up and getting ready to start their day.

We allotted our second day to go to Virgin Island which is about 30 minutes from Bantayan. The locals said that it has powdery and white sand and it was a great place to snorkel.

walking our way to Cou Cou Resort

After our breakfast at Cou Cou Resort, Toto, our pedicab driver fetched us and asked us for money to buy the food he's gonna cook at the island. We gave him P1000 for squid, scallops, 2 big fishes and a kilo of rice. I know it's too much but we need to feed them too as they won't be bringing their own food to the island. We paid P300 each for the boat and P100 each for the island's entrance fee. I don't think it's legit though since they didn't gave us any receipts.

Upon arriving at the island, you'll be greeted by its white sand, coconut trees, hammocks and an area filled with green grass. There are a few cottages as well where you can hang out, a store where you can buy snacks, beer, rent snorkels and masks and literally everything you're gonna need in the island. There's also 2 comfort rooms for your personal deeds.

Our boatmen proceeded to a little kitchen near the store where they prepared and cooked our food. See the reason why you need to buy extra? Because they do everything for you while you kill your time doing nothing and just relaxing on the beach. The boss and Janet shared a bottle of beer while I walked along the shore to see the rest of the area.

There were only a few people on the island since it was a Monday so we pretty much enjoyed the surroundings all to ourselves. After a few hours, lunch was served:

No, we didn't ate it all by ourselves. We gave our boatmen their share before we started eating. They were very shy and timid when it comes to it because they are used to wait for their guests to finish eating first. So just insist that they eat at the same time that you do that way they can feel at ease. After having lunch, we took a dip in the cold water which was odd because it was already around 1 o' clock in the afternoon then. We weren't able to snorkel because there were no corals anyway.

We left the island a few hours after to be in Bantayan just in time for the sunset. After taking a shower we went to The Floating Bar for a few drinks which you can see from any beach resort you are staying because they are floating a little far from the shore. To get there, you need to ride their little boat which is specifically assigned to transport guests to and from the shore to the bar. Don't worry it's free. But make sure to tip the boatman for his effort to manually paddle your way through.

The bar offers different types of cocktails, beer, sodas and juices. But their juices are just those in cans. They also have different types of snacks and finger foods. We ordered a beef burrito and saw the lady prepare it by stuffing a pita bread - like roll with already - made filling from a plastic bag. It was very salty. (Ugh!) I just had a soda and Janet and the boss enjoyed 2 bottles of beer. We just took a lot of pictures and waited for the sun to set and went back to our resort.

we just can't stop laughing :D
